Some overlap with Grimm’s tales as well as the Arabian Knights but very few one-for-one retellings. One of the stories is basically Aladdin’s Lamp, with a lot of the window dressing changed out, and with an emphasis on the hero’s animal friends, hence the title of “The Clever Cat”. The “Beasts” section feels more multicultural, drawing from Africa, Asia, India, the Middle East, and Norse traditions.
