HA! OMG this side character just said basically the same thing I did in a recent review about publishing fanfiction. Of course, that bit about a decent publisher recognizing a story as such is questionable. :-/

Arrrgh, no with the red-herring! It's not him. I think I figured out who SOS is about 40% into the story, but with that little misdirect I'm even more certain now.

JFC that was hot. Also, OMG with the adulting here! Dominic doesn't want to just be a rebound, Levi thinks he still in love with Stanton (even if that's over)...gawd, I'm in awe of the maturity & in how the typical lazy plot devices & relationship tropes aren't being used.

LOL at Levi jumping off the bed since it still had the hotel bedspread on it! No matter where I go or the hotel chain I use, I ALWAYS strip that sucker off & toss it in the corner.

Every time I read a story w/a couple having sex on the hotel bed without pulling down the covers first reminds me of exactly WHY I do that! Also, dropping used condoms on the floor to pick up later is why I always wear shoes in room, too!

Gawd that was heart-breaking...and yet the most mature, realistic, honest break-up scene I've ever read. I LOVED that it hurt Levi so much to do it (crying in the car).

Because sometimes loving someone just isn't enough.

They really aren't compatible...and unless someone is willing to compromise their integrity & goals (or have a personality transplant) they would only continue to make each other more miserable.

Aaaaand of COURSE my (maybe not so) brilliant amateur detective insight played out exactly as I mentioned in my last update...just a page and half later. *face/palm*

The detective even said pretty much the same thing:

"We were looking for the same person going to all three vets...We should have been looking for the same animal."

So, Holmes I am not.

Ha! Even *I* (with no pets) know that if you're looking for a suspect in common between several veterinary practices' patient schedules you don't look at the HUMAN names, you look at the animal admissions!

(Not even sure that's gonna have an impact on the case here; I just had to point that out. PEOPLE pay in cash & can falsely fill out forms. BUT, a specific pet, maybe chipped with the same RFID#? *IS* traceable.)

So I've only read a couple of those Boston fics by this author, so I'm not all that familiar with her work. That said: Holy Shitballz, this is really well-written!

Also, well-researched. At least as far as the Las Vegas setting goes. It's the stupid details like calling our jail "CCDC" because that's what EVERYONE calls it (not just "county"), driving to Primm for lottery tickets, "Froot Loop" & eating at Roberto's!

Random hot guy asks the weird, dark, unpopular kid to the prom & said kid is happy about it but also a bit worried it's a potential "Carrie" situation.

Yeah, so am I.

Hot guy IS one of only two male cheerleaders (and in the chastity club at that), so I'm crossing my fingers.

'Cause the movie reference is either a throw away, "it can't be that bad" red-herring...or KAM just hung a lampshade on what's gonna happen.

Since I love all things military-themed & slightly neurotic characters I'm going to assume this was chosen because it's a P2P ex-SGA fanfic...and since I absolutely hate paying for things that used to be free (plus I'm not fond of the P2P trend as a whole), it WILL be a challenge.

Good thing I ADORE fanfic, though. And it's been a LONG while since I read anything Stargate adjacent!

I'm gonna keep reading this because I am really hoping that Ethan realizes he's just as much of a predator as his would-be-bully. Because demanding multiple blowjobs in exchange for not telling anyone that Rob (gay or not) had been chasing/intimidating him when he fell (losing an eye) IS sexual assault.

Imagine a GUY telling a GIRL that to keep quiet she had to let him fuck her for weeks.

Okay, so does anyone know if GR is gonna fix that problem with the books not showing up on your read shelf even after you know you've put it on that shelf (multiple times, in an effort to fix it)?

Seems pretty damned pretentious & douchbaggery, to me.

Oh man, am I supposed to feel this uncomfortable with how Japanese culture has been co-opted and portrayed? Is there a lesson down the road to make this better?

I had to take a minute, to breathe, to regroup, to just sit & appreciate all that I have in my life right now...because I know exactly what Josh is going through. I've known that uncertainty, that embarrassment, that fear of having nowhere permanent to live; of worrying where the next meal comes from. Of that small bit of happiness from simply being clean & safe, if only for a short while. Damn, Eli is nailing this.

Oh thank gawd! Tristan's southern drawl for Jamie isn't as grating in this installment. Either he softened the edges to make it more lyrical & less stereotypical...or I've become immune to it.

Well, looks like I'm only voting in 3 categories for this round of the Good Reads Choice Awards. I really hate it when there aren't a lot of MM titles up for consideration. (Tease by Ella Frank and The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee are the only two I recognize as one I've read and the other on my TBR shelf.)
