This world building is so hard to comprehend. I still am not convinced that any of the god bonds care about Olly, just the one living inside her. When they say they'd burn the world for her, they're not talking about Olly, but she thinks they are. It's just not working for me. They only care about the immortal, not the vessel. How is that romantic?

This series just doesn't make any sense.

Ahhh I'm so bored! We're supposed to be gearing up to the climax, but the writing is so 'we did this, then we did this'. If I wasn't listening on audio I'd probably DNF!

Book logic:
All the people Ollie has willingly and sometimes gleefully killed do not count as murder.
The deaths she was NOT responsible for and were actually accidental are, in fact, murder.
North, who has both killed people on purpose and by accident, wouldn't understand.

These books definitely centre male attention as the only thing that makes women valuable, and every female side character is written with suspicion or derision unless they’re wholly devoted to Ollie. I'd like to say 'or related to a bond and therefore not a sexual threat to Ollie' but I can't.

Halfway through book 5 and we finally find out what the resistance wants, but not what they are 'resisting'.

Oh plot, wherefore art thou?

People like to say that 'good writing trumps plot' and that it's essential to have a well-written book.
I used to believe that.
Den of Vipers has nearly a quarter of a million ratings on Goodreads.
The writing in this book is ATROCIOUS.
And it doesn't matter.
Readers literally don't care.
Because the author captivates them with the idea. The plot. The characters. The wish fulfillment.
Defintely NOT the writing.

Not a huge fan of changing POV to minor characters this late in the novel. Can't even remember who one of them is and I'm finding it hard to care. Feels like we switched just to get an emotion that we couldn't get from Violet, but it's failed for me. At this point I only care about Violet, Tairn, and Ridoc.

I'm enjoying this. But it kind of fills like a lot of filler. Enjoyable filler, but filler.

So more nothing happens in this novel, a couple of missions that don't progress the plot at all, nothing is solved.
What are the 'resistance' resisting? Wouldn't it be better if Olly and her men were rebels against terrible people running the show? (if the powered people have a name as a group, I've forgotten it, it's THAT unmemorable, yet 'bond' means like 4 different things.)

Why are they a "resistance" if there's more of them, and what are they resisting??

It's like the author forgot that 'resistance' means 'rebellion' and wanted the heroes to be the rebellious outnumbered scrappy good guys?

pretty much sums up the entire series except for the 'so much has happened' part lol.

Giovanna is a 'psycho' for going on early morning runs, but Sage 'usually' does, too...

Omg of COURSE a woman SMILING at her BOSS means she wants an affair, even if it's not to further her own career, like duh!

Why am I nearly halfway through the fourth book in the series and only just finding out that not everyone has the bond being conscious inside them?

Why are these sex scenes so damn unsexy? Is it because the bonds take over? They give me the ick.

I really enjoy the author's writing, the voice, style, technique etc, except that I'm just kind of bored? This is like ACOTAR meets Plated Prisoner, there's high stakes but somehow I just don't care? is it because so much time is spent exploring and explaining everything, extending scenes that don't need so much detail, making this much longer than it needs to be?

I like Hart's writing style.

This is the perfect setup for what I'm craving right now. It's mostly just the two of them, doing something, forced proximity, but room to bang to bookend the days lol.

I am really enjoying this when I read it, I just don't have much time to sit down and read paperbacks these days.

I like how he's dominant but not degrading.

This book is unneccessarily long.

I feel liked I missed the part where he apologised for torturing her for no reason.
