First two stories are give or take.
First part of Brief Interviews is superb.
“Depressed Person” was a stunning literary feat. Every image, syntactical decision, and those footnotes! Wow! It’s tough to give a 5, its certainly a book I “engaged with” without feeling it as much

How accurate his diagnosis of the antagonist seemed reductionist but, maybe that was the point. We really live in a society, that doesn't allow victims to go through the process of healing, DFW seemed to say. I'm glad he pointed out the toxicity in "positivity culture," how we are "forced" to frame it in a positive light. 1/3 Women and 1/4 Men have experienced sexual violence.

Strong themes there in the end, the human mind is such a resilient thing. New Sincerity can be seen well, I can appreciate the "different language" angle given to the spirituality expressed. As a guy I may never understand the themes here but, I am glad I was exposed to the possibility of self-objectification/dehumanization that comes from being a victim of "sexual violence".

I started Infinite Jest (Really lives up to the title so far) and got annoyed, so I decided to read this shorter work for now.
Really liked the whole 'Knee-Jerk' bit, in fact this whole book will now be added to my recommended reading!
