Status Updates From Cat on the Edge (Joe Grey, #1)

Glad I stuck with it because the first quarter of the book was so ridiculously tedious and boring.

The book is finally picking up steam. The beginning was like pulling teeth. Hopefully the story keeps moving now.

Im trying real hard to like this, but at 28 pages in, I am over the description of everything around Joe. Describing him witnessing the murder and what happened to him after is one thing...
But I do think there is a point where its just too much. This might be a d.n.f.

Talking cats. Cats that read. Cats that… plan their day?? Obsessed.

I just want to know exactly how these particular cats gained this intelligence. How did he turn a woman into a cat. And what is the ultimate goal to make these cats more human-like.

Interesting inner monologue and ideas

This has got a bit weird, to say the least. Cats being able to do human things, humans turning in to cats. A philosophising cat. And then there is a murder mystery which sometimes feels forgotten about. Not really in to it. Free on audible until 31/12.

Left off for a while. Probably be back to finish.

Animals are endangered in this book, and I don’t care for that. It’s also been slow, so far. Since it is the first book in a series and establishing the characters, I’ll give it a little leeway.

Thought I had better start reading more cat detectives now that I’ve stopped writing about them

This should be interesting. I'm no stranger to cats helping their sleuth companions in books, but so far the story is told completely from the point of view of the cat. It's cute so far, well except for the murder :)

Wow, this is MUCH more interesting than that later book! The later book involved a pedestrian "mystery" and the cats were more window-dressing; in this one the book is about a Welsh wizard who turns people into cats and cats into people... How did the series fall so far?!

WOW. This is a series of cat cozies you should NOT read out of order. I began with a later one years ago and found it extremely bewildering -- now that I read this one, the first in the series, the issues I had with the previous one have been completely resolved.

I love mysteries.

I thought this was going to be cute yet predictable but things have taken A TURN (still cute though)

Well, I never expected the most romantic thing I've ever read to be in a cozy mystery about a talking cat but here we are.

Was listening to this on audiobook during flights and have to keep rewinding as falling sleep

While the idea of a cat detective sounds interesting, I found myself bored pretty quickly here. Too much detail on the mundane, too much time spent on things that were unimportant, it wasn't painting a picture to me, it was just dragging. I'd need better world building, a more interesting main character (turns out cats aren't very interesting), or a more exciting mystery

This is seriously the most un-cat cat POV I've ever read. I was already a bit meh on the concept, and for it to be so poorly done may be the end of my interest. I'll give it another chapter or two at the most to see if it picks up.
