I think the writer just referred obliquely to a character's sperm as a "buried secret spore."

More accurately, based on the context, the author's just trying to poetically say that they leave a part of themselves behind but.... still... ....spore...

I was going to start & finish this book today but I got sidetracked.

Fantastic book! I really am enjoying this one
