Some of these stories are a little odd but I love Allie Brosh.

I have reached The Serious Part.
I am no longer LOL-ing.
This is still the book I needed to read.

“Let me tell you: whale sonar is a huge surprise when you’re drunk and asleep.”
This is exactly the book I needed to read at the end of this horrible year. LOL-ing my way through far too quickly.

“I didn’t intend for mortality to be such a central theme in this, but sometimes death is what happens, and here we are.”

I thought I was prepared but I was not. I want to go hug everyone I know. Also some people I don’t know.

I haven't read the author's other book but I was kind of under the assumption that this book was going to be funny. And it started out that way. But the it got pretty serious. I'm still reading it but it's a little slower because I was really hoping for something a little more lighthearted for the end of the year. That's my bad for not doing my research beforehand but this is not a book you'll fly through laughing.

I am crying. It is absurd how unfunny life can be and cruel and random.

“Their relationship was 30% geography projects and 70% the weirdest shit I have ever seen.” This is actually really beautiful and lovely how much love and grief and humor all mix together in this book.

Grief and mortality as guiding themes of the book.
Also you can’t tell because I didnt update my reading until today, I spent about 2 weeks trying to read the first 100 pages. Meanwhile I’ve now read 300 pages in one night.

I wanna talk about formatting and use of visuals to convey meaning and themes, but later. What’s the effect of a more cartoony comic strip vs. hyper-realism?

OHHHHHHH.
Oh I’m gonna have thoughts about this use of plant and payoff and how that factors in to how I feel about the first 100 pages or so.

I can’t swear to it because I haven’t read her first book in a while but I think Allie’s eye for composition has gotten cooler.

I think the book’s hit its groove. Early chapters felt almost like they were trying too hard, but these chapters all feel more focused and precise.

A bit of a mixed bag for me, to be honest, but Chapter 10 is Allie Brosh at the pinnacle of her graphic narrative power.

I had this book on my to-read shelf for years then removed it a year or two ago because it looked like it’d been canceled or for whatever reason wasn’t gonna happen. And now it’s here and I’m reading it!

Moreover, it highlights mental illness as being crippling. Comments in other reviews and on her website mention that this book was supposed to come out October 2016 and people prepaid for it. To come out four years late? It seems wrong to me.
