I’m loving this book so far. Think of it as fun little slice of life stories that come together to form a story (and I love slice of life stories). Also gives a new perspective on what absolute poverty (not relatively poverty) looks like, and while Orwell keeps it fairly lighthearted it also gives a feeling of “damn”

suddenly I thought poverty awakens the deep sense of people about life. the moment with the people you share the last penny you had, the happiness when you walk 3km after a 12-hour shift of work to announce to your friend that you just got a job that can only help you get fed. I had every intention of not liking this but I unfortunately loved Orwell’s writing
