It took about 100 pages for me to get hooked on the story line but once I was engaged, I couldn't set it down. Definitely a great read and I hope Disney makes a movie adaption. Mulan and Shang's character growth is so intriguing to watch. Through all the obstacles they face both physical and mental really draws the reader in. Elizabeth Lim writes so beautifully without overloading the reader with too much detail.

Of course that her hair down suits her, SHE IS A FUCKING WOMAN SHANG OMG!

It is the first book in english I’ve ever read that is in third person :)

Besides an odd line here and there the writing isn’t bothering me nearly as much and I’m starting to really enjoy it!

I reaallllyyyy wanna like this book. Like, really really. But the writing is killing me, I can’t even put my finger on what about it is killing me. I’m only a few pages in and it’s already bugging me so it’s not looking up. What’s the age-range for this book? Because the writing seems very dumbed down and just... not good. We’re gonna keep trying though

On page 180 Mulan and Shang are still in Diyu trying to find another way out. But with the demons they are coming faster not enought time for them to run away without getting captured.
If I could change the detail of shang’s guardian dying for Shang. I would change this detail because the guardian had more potential of not being self-absorbed as he used to be.And this change would show that his mission was completed.

This makes me want to learn about Chinese mythology.
