By April 2014, it became increasingly clear that the tireless efforts of Secretary of State John Kerry would fail to produce a political settlement between Israel and the Palestinians. In a leaked recording of a closed-door meeting, Secretary Kerry warned that Israel risked becoming an "apartheid state" if the US-sponsored peace process failed to produce a two-state reality. With Hamas's takeover, [Gaza Strip] came under absolute internal Palestinian control, as Hamas's government rejected any official engagement with the Israel state. Imposed curfews, home demolitions, and midnight raids by Israel's occupying forces, or by Palestinian security following Israeli orders, were no longer a daily occurence as they were in the West Bank.

Hamas's thinking was grounded in a revolutionary's mind-set, questioning why past policies enacted by the PLO had to persist in light of the most recent democratic election. Perhaps more importantly, leaders argued that the arguments were redundant given Israel's chronic failure to meet its own responsibility.

Filling in the blanks, filling in the blanks 🎶 (though I am glad that the actual reading stops at the 250 mark, any longer is going to magnify the decompression period to an unsustainable degree).

Breaking through the hasbara caricature of Hamas as a Islamist death cult hell-bent on the destruction and murder of international Jewry, Baconi gives readers an understanding of the ideology behind Hamas and the evolution of its strategies of resistance.
Too often, people either demonize Hamas as a cartoonish evil or praise them as heroic freedom fighters. Baconi offers a fact-based understanding of Hamas

The Hamas’s complicated history is only because of the blatant aggression from Israel’s prime minister Sharon who fails to de escalate and instead prompts to dehumanize the Palestinian people

It reviews a lot of history. We're up to the Bush admin antics. What a terrible time. They tried to suffocate Hamas and punished all Palestinians in the process.
If anyone reads this, I hope they will gather that Hamas is a political party and a resistance group, rather than a terrorist organization. But I don't think USians will listen to reason.
The occupation is the problem, not any particular political party!!

“The definition put forward by the U.S. State Department has consistently and cynically been manipulated to justify illegal and morally reprehensible military measures, in this case by Israel. Furthermore, while the label of “terrorism” under this definition can be applied to Hamas, it fails to account for the terror caused by Israel’s relentless military regime over the Palestinians”

Very educational. Feel like I better understand Hamas’s motivation as an organization and what the landscape was like each time they made decisions.
