From a simple system of note taking can come worlds of complex thought.

I am very excited to be reading this book. I know something of the process it lays out and I'm eager to put much of this book into practice.

I really liked this booked, It gave me practical insights about implementing the Slip-Box method to develop my framework of thinking. I will be trying this out using Notion.

¡Qué tremenda sorpresa me llevé!

Quote from page 54 (albeit ironic I'm using it as a quote): "The ability to express understanding in one's own words is a fundamental competency for everyone who writes - and only by doing it with the chance of realizing our lack of understanding can we become better at it."

Effective learning requires plugging in a piece of information into as many meaningful contexts as possible.
Planning is especially ineffective when it's mostly focused on the desired outcome rather than the tasks and steps involved in attempting to achieve the intended result.

Zeigarnik effect:
Unfinished tasks (open loops) take up space in our short-term memory until they're done.
This explains why our attention can wander easily towards unimportant incomplete tasks.
Real thinking needs externalization. E.g. Developing ideas in a notebook.
Short-term memory items take up space in our mind until it's forgotten, replaced by something more vital, or moved to long-term memory.

Slip-box is an external knowledge management system that allows for idea relationships that are non-linear and open-ended. It models how ideas naturally develop in our minds: As we progress our learning and understanding, new knowledge can change existing ideas, link up with old ideas, cause a detachment between previously linked ideas, and extend an idea beyond its original context.

If this book continues as strongly as the introduction starts, this is looking to be so much more than the title suggests.

Embracing a growth mindset means to get pleasure out of changing for the better (which is mostly inwardly rewarding) instead of getting pleasure in being praised (which is outwardly rewarding).

Once we get into the workflow, it is as if the work itself gains momentum, pulling us along and sometimes energizing is. This is the kind of dynamics we are looking for.
