Status Updates From A General Theory of Oblivion

A fascinating look at an agoraphobic woman whose resourcefulness allows her to survive the Angolan War of Independence after her family abandons her. As with many novels I read in translation, from authors writing outside of the London/NY publishing establishment, this novel breaks the rules of what makes a good contemporary novel, and ends up being a surprising and delightful read because of it.
