Create and maintain good habits, as well as steering clear of bad ones, by employing some simple strategies: Distract yourself, use treats instead of rewards, know what sort of person you are and make your good habits convenient and make an if-then list.

Only about a quarter in and it's already making significant changes in my life, not least from a wonderful change of perspective. I'm assisted to the podcast now too! My fiancé is enjoying my recaps too and THAT is saying something.

Loving it. Everything about it. Rubin's immediate discussion of individualisation and her context for researching and writing this book had me hooked in minutes.

"One of my most important Secrets of Adulthood, however, is: "I'm more like other people, and less like other people, than I suppose." While I'm not much different from other people, those differences are VERY IMPORTANT."

I couldn't get enough of the happiness project but I'm struggling with this one... got through a chunk of it sitting on an airplane today so I do hope to finish eventually!

Great resource for anyone who is serious about understanding themselves and how their natural tendencies shape how their habits should be formed.

What's with the hate on people trying to drink more water? She sounded unnecessarily rude on that section because who knows maybe the lady was trying to drink water instead of sugar drinks.

I just started and this is already excellent. Thorough and thoughtful, but so easy to read.

The authors just said that she doesn't like music, animals, travel, shopping and she prefers plain food. What a mood killer.

This book is getting better and better the more I read it. There's a lot of helpful insight on habit formation, and there's a nice touch of personal opinions and emotion from the author.

The end of the blank slate chapter is pointless. it's great that the blank slate of starting her blog was so successful for her but do you really need to invent those opportunities? And I don't think cleaning out a closet is really the same, especially since she didn't back it up with examples of new habits formed afterwords.
