The ups and downs of Rafaela’s thoughts are becoming really annoying bc we’re having the same thought processes over and over again. If these tangents were deleted, this book would not be this long.

“I had spoken to several Sisters, but…” if be “several” she means like 2 at the most 3, then sure. But girl, YEAH. You wasted the hour of recreation. You spent most of it listening to other Sisters, and then only talking to Sister Catherine. Girl idk what to tell you

“What had I really seen, anyway?” GIRL-

(2) Like either you’re gonna buck up and do something, or just shut up. I like her but damn the constant back and forth is getting to be incessant

(1) Like i understand the constant going back and forth over whether this is really happening considering the time period and Rafaela’s character, but DUDE. This is like the fifth or sixth time we’ve had this conversation of “oh I’ve seen this horrible thing happen, but there just HAS to be an innocent explanation for it” and she’ll mull it over for a while going back and forth.

“So, where—or, more accurately, who—were all of the fluids coming from?“
I’m calling it: It’s all of the villagers who are dying from the tincture or just in general. They’re taking the “essence” from just any dead body they have and selling it as an erasure of sin.
