Quite a lot of The Gilded Age is- I do not believe I am going out on a limb by writing is rather than seems, though I try to be thoughtful- misogynistic, parochial in its "Christian" solutions to social problems, and perhaps racist as well. Hopefully these are the parts not coauthored by Clemens.
