"Has a thinking man perhaps here really cried out de profundis? And the ear of our thinking, does it still not hear the cry? It will refuse to hear it so long as it does not begin to think. Thinking begins only when we have come to know that reason, glorified for centuries, is the most stiff necked adversary of thought."

"Thus we shall never experience our relationship to the essence of technology so long as we merely conceive and push forward the technological, put up with it, or evade it. Everywhere we remain unfree and chained to technology, whether we passionately affirm or deny it. But we are delivered over to it in the worst possible way when we regard it as some thing neutral..."

Am currently reading this with a group formally and taking breaks while reading in the group to informally discuss what Heidegger is saying. Much thanks go to William Lovitt for producing such a fine translation, over 40 years ago!
Here's our discussion thus far https://youtu.be/r-02aBq60q0 This stops 8 pages into the 33 page essay.

need to read this for a project I'm doing for school (reading it in English but it's a print from a book containing more essays apart from this one). It's quite hard to get through but I like Heidegger.

Wauw, just wauw. Heidegger.

"Around the hero everything turns into tragedy; around the demi-god, into satyr; and around God - what? - perhaps into the world?"

Such a wonderful Introduction! Especially for those like me who plunge into Heidegger without any idea of what lies ahead.
