Maybe the translation to English is really shitty but I’m just not enjoying the way this story is structured. I don’t know, I’ll keep reading because I’m sure the author is talented and who knows, maybe the original is better!

did I really read the phrase "her blow-job lips"... this book is satire right? We're supposed to be laughing at this narrator and think he's pathetic?? right? just making sure...

This was such an insane ride. Fernanda Melchor's writing is so gruesome yet I can't find myself taking my eyes off of it. A tale of hypermasculinity, racism, classism, of exploitation and its consequences...this was an amazing read. The ending reminded me of Parasite (film) and how it leaves me saying "wow. wtf. that was genius."

Polo’s other cousin Zorayda is, in my eyes, senseless temptation to Polo. Sadly enough he’s succumbed to her sexually and physically, getting pushed around and abused by her. By her winks and touches that only fuel his demented and un-right low flame for her. Him trying to punish her with rape but that only making it worse for him. Making her addicted to the idea of Polo. She has the upper hand in his life!

Milton: Polos old best friend and cousin has changed, all the happy memories Polo remembers aren’t holding up to the person Milton is today. Milton has been tortured, abused, mentally challenged forcibly to enter a gang of sorts that steal money and kill innocents. Milton is acting as a father who made bad decisions giving their son better advice to see them grow. Polo see’s this as if his friend is long gone.

this is ... not very pleasant to read but we shall continue

Damn, this book is too detailed.
To keep it simple!
Franco got caught with drinks. Grounded.
Everything is against Polo.
Franco’s grounding doesn’t last long, instantly he goes back to his devious perverted self.
Sneaking into Señora Marián’s house; Franco stealing panties etc
Later Polo snaps and reveals his true beliefs in Franco and his actions, sparking an argument turning into a bet of stealing from milf

Polo’s life is pretty sad in Mexico.
Grandfather gone. Dad presumably out of the question sad well.
Zorayda: Polos cousin is a pretty awful gal explained by his pessimistic eyes, understandably so, she’s a whore and her pregnancy is a mystery due to her being a whore. She took his bed and while Polo is out working, she doesn’t uphold a 50/50 deal where she cooks and cleans while he works.

There seems to be a page break with an empty page, separating these 35 pages from the rest of the pages of the book.
Polo is a raging alcoholic and a strained gardener busting his butt for no profit of his own because his mother takes his entire salary.
