“We become different versions of ourselves when we clear the space to rest and honor the truth that empty cups need to be refilled by sources bigger than themselves. Only then can they serve their true purpose without wearing out.” -Pg 161

"You cannot possibly be in your life completely if you're always looking to the right and left of you or focusing all your energy on how you measure up against those around you." -Pg 116
Lol glad I could finally get all my quotes in. Didn't have my phone for a bit so I had a lot to put in.

"...there is value and weight to committing to the life we actually have when it feels easier to escape it by distracting ourselves with another app, another influencer, another show on the newest streaming platform...We must decide to embody the good, the bad, the holy, and the hard long enough for our roots to grow deep into the ground and strengthen us into stable forces in an often-unsteady world." -Pg 32

"We are meant to check in with ourselves. We are meant to ask ourselves tough questions. We are meant to look inside, survey the chaos, and ask ourselves, 'Are you okay? What's going on? How can we fix this?' We're meant to know what's going on in our souls, to dredge up our old storylines from the murky waters and face what's really there." -Pg 24

"When you begin pressing into your own unplugged hours, don't be alarmed when discomfort rises in your spirit or you suddenly feel like you don't know what to do with your hands. We're so used to always occupying ourselves that we've all but forgotten what it feels like to just be- without a task, without a comment, without a point of engagement." -Pg 19

A must read for all of us but especially parents as we navigate this world with our phones. I wish I would have read (and put into practice) many of her suggestions early on in my parenting life. That said the book is very much like reading her journals and perhaps goes on a little longer than need be.

“Don’t make the metrics your focus. Ultimately, the challenge isn’t about meeting a quota of daily unplugged hours; it’s about building an unhurried in-the-moment life.” —pg xxi

“…the best things—the most unshakable lessons—take time to root themselves in our souls. [The benefits of unplugging] were not instant or overnight, but the result of a steady, hour-by-hour practice of peering down over many months.”
