*insert whole spiel I wrote that I accidentally posted for Children of Blood and Bone*
Meaning I'm shelving this for now. Don't think I'm going to come back to it.

Notes so far:
- Tarnas is a pretty wordy author. His metaphors and tangents come back to the matter at hand but by then, I'm kind of... bored. (AKA I wish it was a bit more concise)
- So far, few signs of any imitations of a new world view, but considering I'm not even 10% in, I think there's plenty of time for those later.
- Am confused about genre though. Doesn't read like nonfiction. Definitely isn't fiction.

This is a long book and very involved. The concepts are important in terms of astrology, especially mundane astrology. I have put it down for now. I will take it up again some other time.

Part III: Discussion on archetypes and the function of planets and luminaries in signifying those archetypes. Tarnas subscribes to a symbolic rather than causal interpretation, employing examples of Uranus and Saturn transits in the lives of imminent figures. He cautions the reader to recognize the multivalence of archetypal experiences, the reality of which makes a statistical study of astrology nearly impossible.

Part II: The evolution of the modern self is bookended by two revolutions: the cosmological and the psychological. The Copernican revolution culminated in the Enlightenment; the Freudian heralded the descent of man into the postmodern deconstruction of the self. After a brief survey of Jung's work on synchronicity, Tarnas suggests that the greatest evidence for an ensouled universe is to be found in astrology.

Part I: Tarnas argues that the modern mind has subverted our traditional "Primal World View." Whereas primitive man believed his individual subjectivity to be in perpetual communion with nature and the cosmos, modern "disenchanted" philosophy and science have isolated man from the world. In the current era, consumerism, allied to mass media and technology, has expunged the Self of any meaning, value, or purpose.
