Interesting ending... Didn't saw that coming. Good read!

At this point I'm sticking around to see if my suspicion that the Mom was sleeping with Linda. I have a lot to say about Judd and how to handle unlikeable characters and how not to and oh my god can we please get to the story instead of going on another literal and figural masturbatory tangent but all that can wait till I finish the book. If I do end up finishing the book.

It's odd, I mostly read fiction written by women, with female protagonists and I always forget there is such a big difference between popular male and female authors. At least in my opinion. Judd is pretty whiny and my least favourite character so of course this story is told by him. I don't care for the failed marriage and his whining. Oh god the whining. Someone make it stop. Otherwise I like this books a lot.

The entirety of chapter 13 is a perfect example of the man who thinks he's a "nice guy," but is actually a misogynist who objectifies women and sees them as existing to fulfill his fantasies. Nope. Gross.

Blrgh. Incest, sex with sisters-in-law, casual sex, fantasising about random woman, burglarising your ex-wife's house and committing petty acts of revenge...do I really want to waste my life on this? I'm assuming the 'deep' and 'meaningful' part of this book is coming soon, but I just can't really be bothered.

This is a tough one for me. Every time I sit down to read this book club pick, I start singing the Lego Movie song in my head, but the new words are "everyone is awful! I really hate this whole family!" I'm hoping it's the kind of personal journey story where people grow and get better, but right now the only character I like is the father - and he's dead.

'I know incest is wrong. [...] It would have been so much easier with Judd, if only he wasn't gay.'

Okay...aside from that blasé treatment of incest...I thought Judd was our narrator and he was heterosexual? I'm starting to get confused, here.

Did the author just switch from first person to third person?

I give up. It was situational sort of funny. Now it's just really, really sad.

Oh my god, these people are horrible.

The problem with books about character growth is that I often hate the characters in the beginning. His time around, there's a whole family full of unpleasant people involved. We'll see where this goes.

I love this family.

I'm thoroughly enjoying myself. Going to have to buy this one.

So far, I am having a hard time reading this book, and to be honest, I may not even finish it.

This book gets so funny, then so sad, then goes right back to hilarious. The masseuse thought he was tickling my foot because I was laughing so hard at some of the scenes. They are completely real and completely ridiculous. Tropper has a gift of capturing humanity at its best and worst - and his descriptions are spot on.

That's the thing about life; everything feels so permanent, but you can disappear in an instant.

Wow, this family is awful.
