It’s funny because this book doesn’t belong to me, I just pick it up whenever I’m feeding my baby at a friend’s house. Hence why it’s sporadically read.

Did not like the chapter on “well eating” went a little off topic IMO and pulled in stuff about communion and the dinner table, and pesticides and the law… 🤔 I’m not offended, but I didn’t find it helpful or completely on target 😂

Sacrifice so others can see, or for your own convenience and comfort is not serving the Lord gladly.

“This is just another example of a parent’s need to be a good leader. You need to make sure that all of your children know what you expect. You should not have silent expectations with consequences of resentment fromMom. Lay your expectations out clearly, and enforce them clearly and cheerfully.”

Note to self: don’t start a million books and not finish them or you may spend one weekend finishing them all.

Round ✌🏼 “When you empty yourself for others, God fills you up. But not so you can suddenly retire with your little packet of joy. God gives to us that we may give. We give, He gives us more, with which to give more.”

It’s already convicting and I don’t even have any littles running around yet. I can already see the sinful tendencies and patterns in my heart as Rachel describes motherhood. But it’s also encouraging to begin ‘working to bear fruit now that will bear the seeds of a lot of future fruit.’ Lord willing.

"When parents see themselves as an authority, they are enforcing their position, not their personal whims."
And
"When we ignore sins our children are caught up in, that is not giving them grace. That has a different name: judgement. Think of Romans 1:24, “Therefore God gave them over to their sins.”"
And "Grace is action. / Grace is not a coward."
I thought chapter 12 was quite good.

"Our opportunities to bless our children are often most present when we least feel like it. This is why we cannot depend on our emotions to dictate our actions. We need to discipline our own emotions to fall in line with obedience."

chapter 10 talks about how we view the type of food we feed our kids.. Totally addresses "mom guilt" about what kinds of foods we are serving.. Etc.

We can always obey, and God always provides the grace. The fundamentals are always right in front of us, and they are always the same. Love God, hate sin.

Cheerfully embracing the mundane work in your life, diving into the challenges, working harder than you would think possible at the little, at the trivial, at the boring-- these are all ways to say, 'Use me Lord; I am your servant.'

The love of Christ is not the reason that we don't have to do things. It is the reason we get to do things freely....We imitate Christ, and we make sacrifices for others. We do things that are hard, that cost us much, BECAUSE we want our gifts to be FREE to others.... When we want the cost to be shared by all, we are not imitating Christ.
