A well-written and depressing examination of the often unjust nature of the justice system, unreliable narrator and 'start at the end, work to the beginning' storytelling and all. I just don't know what the point of it all is yet?

She lost her child. Why can't I feel sorry for her though? I think she's such a bitch! Her daughter's killed and all she cares about is her public image and not what actually happened until ten years later? Really?

"It's a funny phenomenon. You can never visit your own funeral, But if you want to see how people feel about you, commit a crime. The parade of personalities that intersects with yours over the years is a Voyeuristic Thrill that few people experience. "

Thank goodness that this book is almost over. I still cannot believe how awful it is.

Reminds me a bit of "We Need to Talk About Kevin" because there is not a single likeable character in this book. But still, interesting and moving along at a good pace.

This book has yet to really grab my attention. But to be fair, I haven't devoted much time to reading lately.

Jury trials are really nothing more than poorly written stage plays. You've got two authors writing opposing narratives and a director who is paid not to care about either outcome. Hired actors sit on either end of the stage, while unwitting audience members strive to remain quiet. No applause should be rendered, no gasps of glory. Witnesses sit agape with fury as they stumble across their rehearsed lines...

I would expect that a story of a young woman who is currently on death row in PA to be more interesting.

This has really caught my interest. A woman on death row, why? And why is the victim's mother creating an advocate group to remove Noa from death row?

This far in I am still not sure how I feel about this book except that I think the author is trying to hard and her author photo on the dust jacket is one of the cheesiest I have seen in a long time.

This book reads like what it is: a first novel. The prose is overwrought, the "literary phrases" constant and distracting, the text loaded with 10-cent words:
"He was nervous, true; that was not something to be debated, but it was almost an hour that I'd spent inside the bar, and at that point in my life, I followed my own dictum, despite my father's superficial lament." (p71)
I may return this one unfinished.

So intense and good! Can't wait to see how it ends even though the ultimate outcome is obvious.

I am enjoying the book. Noa is an unusual narrator. She has an edge to her. At this point I am pulled int a story and have all sorts of questions. I hope the answers live up to the pull of the plot.

Elizabeth Silver's way with words! For example:
"I think the thing I actually miss the most is watching a sun sit still on a solid evening hour, its talons skewering the clouds beneath. That elongated stretch through the clouds, that beam downward, pointing like a strict schoolteacher, informing everyone around that, yes, there is a higher purpose..."

Well, I couldn't help but check out something where the marketing team has the audacity to compare it to 2 of the past couple years' 3 biggest thrillers (Before I Go To Sleep & Defending Jacob) and being the 250th novel claiming to be this year's Gone Girl (the 3rd of the 3). Due to all that, I was expecting an utter trainwreck, but not too much to say so far other than that it's stylized to a fault

"I'll never forget walking home from school one day and seeing my mother and a mustachioed speed walker sashaying up to the front door after a whopping three mile jaunt; their hips shifting from left to right; their arms staggered in pendulous rhythm, and their feet tenderly touching the ground from heel to toe, heel to toe like developmentally challenged salsa dancers."
