Exciting story of Champion Hill spurred me to learn more of it, only to find it is not a park to be visited. Seems a shame.

I think the rating is high because the author is following the formula, giving the readers what they expect.

Not going to catch up in Catton before finishing this one. It's getting really exciting. This despite the fact that I know how it has to end, and the fact that Shaara essentially uses the same voice for all his characters.

Reading Catton's trilogy at same time. Trying not to read further here till Catton catches up to this point, or I should say, till I catch up to Catton's writing on this part of the war.

Riveting!

Starts slow but turns out to be worth it. Not sure about Sherman's voice, but everything else rings true to me. Really interesting!

Started a bit slow, but as soon as Shaara moves into more dialogue, both internal and between characters, it's great stuff. The whole book is about the year-long battle for Vicksburg, so only for those with that level of interest.

So much to read so little time!

Slower reading than I'd hoped; I keep getting bogged down by the author's love affair with commas...

I feel like it is taking me forever to read this. So much happens in every sentence. The character detail and nuances at amazing. Really enjoying this one.

Great book so far - Sharra not only makes the reader feel the suffering of those caught up in the Siege of Vicksburg - but paints a personal portrait of some of the common folks that either fought in this batter or volunteered to help others in spite of the horror created by this war.

I was not sure I would find this book interesting, I am glad that I do. The battle tactics are fascinating.

I will attempt to read this before its release on the 21st.
