I'm guessing Hans has no idea about Arnulf's brother which is why he can't put two and two together which would have made him realize that he is Arnulf's brother's son. Fair enough. But that doesn't explain why Angela hasn't figured it out yet. She was told about the pirate attack and is the one to solve a lot of the mysteries in this novel so there really isn't any excuse besides plot.

Angela has not long ago been kidnapped by the archduke along with her father and mother and forced to his castle. I have a feeling the archduke is going to murder his currant wife and try to take Angela as his bride for her riches.
