Alif the Unseen by G. Willow Wilson
Alli’s first review of the year
liked it
A unique piece of young adult fiction. Intriguing plot, exceptional setting, and some great characters (notably Dina and Vikram), but suffers from a cardboard villain and lackluster writing. Contains many bits and pieces of story that don't come together well. I wanted to love it, but could barely get through a chapter before my eyes would start to close. It's enjoyable, but The Golden Compass it is definitely not.
