The Power by Naomi Alderman

Chris’s first review of the year

really liked it
I’d say I enjoyed this book. It made me really uncomfortable as a man, which I think it should. Really interesting examination of power and the effects of one gender having power over the other. I’d definitely recommend reading it, though the story itself was a bit lacking. If you REALLY need a strong narrative arc I’m not sure it’s for you

Small Fry by Lisa Brennan-Jobs

Chris’s last review of the year

really liked it
Lisa Brennan Jobs is a really good writer. Though if she remembers the moments she recalls so vividly in the book half as well as it seems she does, my brain must be broken (which it might be)

It’s a heart breaking but beautiful look at a childhood that was really mistreated.

The phrase that continues to run through my head is “what use is his genius to me”
