I'm not sure why I ever pick up these books. They all have commonalities; sexual abuse, extreme poverty, welfare services, deadbeat dads who can't provide for everyone and impregnate way too many wives too often, spousal abuse and misogyny. For all that, this is more interesting than most, perhaps because it is told from the viewpoint of the narrator's childhood. This special division sent women into the field to work as agents to disrupt Nazi logistics and aid the French resistance during WWII. This book centers around the story of one of the agents, who seems like an unlikely recruit, and also follows the story of the main handler of the girls in the field.
