A 5 second review of The Cruel Prince by Holly Black: it was better than I expected, but not as good as I wanted it to be.

The Good: The faeries aren't watered down, the plot takes an unexpected and very interesting turn (spying!), the most likely couple doesn't get together by the end of the book, and the faerie who wants to be human.

This is just a darned good story.

Here's the thing. I read Throne of Glass, really enjoyed it, and then forgot about it until Crown of Midnight came out. I bought Crown of Midnight, started reading it, realized I had absolutely no memory of what happened in Throne of Glass, so I had to re-read parts of that first. I rarely say this about sequels, but I actually liked Crown of Midnight better.
