A 5 second review of The Cruel Prince by Holly Black: it was better than I expected, but not as good as I wanted it to be.

The Good: The faeries aren't watered down, the plot takes an unexpected and very interesting turn (spying!), the most likely couple doesn't get together by the end of the book, and the faerie who wants to be human.

really liked it
I was going to give this three stars at first, taking some away for being long and meandering. But then I realized that I liked that about it. It never felt rushed, like I had to sprint through it to the finish line. This book was more about the journey. I loved Miryem, who’s smart and ambitious. I enjoyed how all the stories spun themselves together. It was refreshingly different from most YA fantasy. I didn’t enjoy it as much as Uprooted, which ...more
