Nope. A story doesn't get to kill a (view spoiler) with so little consequence. That moves a "cozy mystery" into the "nope, no way" category for me.

The moralizing is heavy in this one as are highly implausible occurrences which will obviously be plot devices before the story is over. (Has it ever occured to you, while visiting someone else's home, to buy a cat that isn't yours a collar with bells? No? You must not
