The Conqueror's Wife by Stephanie Thornton
Amalia’s first review of the year
it was amazing
Hephaestion and Drypetis stole the show for me in this book -- but all four point of view characters came together to weave a powerful narrative around the life and death of Alexander. I particularly appreciated the fact that we didn't just see the glorious side of Alexander, but also got the sense of him as a truly dark and dirty warlord alongside it, through the eyes of the people who loved and hated him. This is another book I thought came along much later in the series -- but I love that we get a closer look at the Hork Bajir, and Tobias's books are always interesting perspectives. I appreciate that his life as a hawk and the needs of that life have influenced his character and outlook as the series has progressed.
