Laryn Kragt Bakker was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He has a degree in graphic design and computer science from Dordt College and is currently living in Memphis with his wife and children. His debut novel, Clutching Dust and Stars, was published in 2009 and named "Best First Novel" by Hearts and Minds Books. Winners Announced for the 2016 "Memphis Magazine" Fiction Contest

...Honorable mention went to “Effects of the Wind” by Laryn Kragt Bakker, a recent Memphis transplant who does graphic design and web development for nonprofits through CEDC.org. His book, Clutching Dust and Stars, was awarded “Best First Novel” by Hearts and Minds Books when it was released in 2009.
