"The second part, Uneducated Women, covers roughly the first third of the film (at a guess). The best thing about the first fifteen chapters of this part of the novel is the insights into the characters that are given. Things mostly play out the same as they did in the film, but everything is fleshed out. Chapter 15 is a favorite; lots of rich details about Elisa's past." Mar 09, 2018 12:10AM

(3.5/5)

Jenny T. Colgan had the hardest job of any of the four authors who novelized an episode for this first wave of new Target books: she had to take an episode that I really didn't care for and make it a good novel. I just really didn't care for t

This novelization is probably, of the four, the one most different from the episode that aired. While Day of the Doctor added some new stuff, it was mostly just asides and rearranged scenes and things like that. With Rose, Russel T. Davies really tak ...more

Doctor Who: The Eighth Doctor - The Time War 2 is a bit disappointing on the whole. It's never awful or anything, but it's surprisingly mediocre. None of the stories are quite as good as the ones in the first Time War set and many of them just feel l ...more

Doctor Who: The Eighth Doctor - The Time War Series 1 is easily one of my favorite box sets from Big Finish. It's one of the best Time War stories told so far and it's a great showcase of how talented Paul McGann is and the range his Doctor possesses ...more

Steven Moffat should absolutely consider novelizing more of his episodes if the BBC decides to do more of these. This book brilliantly expands on all the best parts of the episodes while filling in gaps that weren't able to be filled in in the episod ...more

Neil Gaiman
“Have you thought about what it means to be a god?" asked the man. He had a beard and a baseball cap. "It means you give up your mortal existence to become a meme: something that lives forever in people's minds, like the tune of a nursery rhyme. It means that everyone gets to re-create you in their own minds. You barely have your own identity any more. Instead, you're a thousand aspects of what people need you to be. And everyone wants something different from you. Nothing is fixed, nothing is stable.”
Neil Gaiman, American Gods

Joseph Fink
“Remember that misuse of language can lead to miscommunication, and that miscommunication leads to everything that has ever happened in the whole of the world.”
Joseph Fink, Welcome to Night Vale

Cecil Baldwin
“Sometimes you go through things that seem huge at the time, like a mysterious glowing cloud devouring your entire community. While they're happening, they feel like the only thing that matters and you can hardly imagine that there's a world out there that might have anything else going on. And then the glow cloud moves on. And you move on. And the event is behind you. And you may find, as time passes, that you remember it less and less. Or absolutely not at all, in my case.”
Cecil Baldwin

Neil Gaiman
“You got to understand the god thing. It’s not magic. It’s about being you, but the you that people believe in. It’s about being the concentrated, magnified, essence of you. It’s about becoming thunder, or the power of a running horse, or wisdom. You take all the belief and become bigger, cooler, more than human. You crystallize.” He paused. “And then one day they forget about you, and they don’t believe in you, and they don’t sacrifice, and they don’t care, and the next thing you know you’re running a three-card monte game on the corner of Broadway and Forty-third.”
Neil Gaiman, American Gods

J.K. Rowling
“But that's - I'm sorry, but that's completely ridiculous! How can I possibly prove it doesn't exist? Do you expect me to get hold of - of all the pebbles in the world and test them? I mean, you could claim that anything's real if the only basis for believing in it is that nobody's proved it doesn't exist!”
J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
