As always, these two authors delivered with an amazing scifi thriller finish. AIDAN's complexity was the best thing in this book though - not any of the three romances (which, I still agree, were pretty decent). There is still something about teenage ...more

Wow. Just... wow.

I think this is the book that revived my love for reading this time around. Intriguing premise, simple yet beautifully-worded prose, fantastic characters, plots twistier than some I've seen thus far, and so, so, so thought-provoking.

This was supposed to be an exciting thriller?

This had none of the urgency that you would expect from a story that's about rich kids being kidnapped and held hostage by guerillas and terrorists in the Colombian jungle - not especially when most of the

Quite a disappointing read to be honest...

I miss the days of Anna Dressed in Blood of Kendare Blake... that was some really good stuff, yo.

A bit different from the first books by the author prose-wise. There are some parts I like about it, but it feels a little too ambitious in terms of story-line and world-building. It is the first book of a series, though, so we'll see how it goes.

GOD I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!

This brought me back from the dead. Like for realsies.

Should I squeal in a video? Or write a most-likely uncomprehensible review full of adjectives on how this book is SO. GOOD????

Because it is.

Holy shit.

“You can't keep acting like this," Lillian says, and for the first time in months, it's like she's actually trying to be nice. "Tragedy isn't this evil thing that came from outer space. It's just there, you know. Along with everything else.”
Brenna Yovanoff, Paper Valentine

Joe Abercrombie
“Has it ever occured to you, Master Ninefingers, that a sword is different from other weapons? Axes and maces and so forth are lethal enough, but they hang on the belt like dumb brutes. But a sword...a sword has a voice.
Sheathed it has little to say, to be sure, but you need only put your hand on the hilt and it begins to whisper in your enemy's ear. A gentle word. A word of caution. Do you hear it?
Now, compare it to the sword half drawn. It speaks louder, does it not? It hisses a dire threat. It makes a deadly promise. Do you hear it?
Now compare it to the sword full drawn. It shouts now, does it not? It screams defiance! It bellows a challenge! Do you hear it?”
Joe Abercrombie, The Blade Itself

Ellen Oh
“If I can believe believe that the heavens have blessed me with a tiger-spirited daughter, then how can I doubt the existence of a Dragon Musado?" he said.

Kira didn't know how to react to her father's words.

"I believe that one person can change the world. Whether he is the Musado or a girl with a tiger spirit. The monks teach that we mere mortals cannot question fate. But I say that we control destiny by our every action. Our power lies in the choices we make." Her father placed his warm hand on her cheek. "In the choices you make. Remember, stay true to yourself and do what your heart tells you is right, and not what is easy.”
Ellen Oh, Prophecy
