"Obviously ERB ripped off Gulliver when writing Princess of Mars. But aside from the lame rescue/chase-princesses thing, there is some good stuff. A recent chapter had the main character traveling through a forest of animated plants. He watches a beautiful plant sucker in victims to eat, but a nearby bird keeps stealing the plant's food. And then eats the plant. Along with the character, I wanted to brain that bird." — Feb 27, 2021 04:48PM

"Doing this book as a slow read (2 chapters a week) with a D&D group and it's really paying off, reading it at a more leisurely pace. Chapters 5 and 6 is where we finally learn to like some of the characters. The earlier stuff, of course was some amazing world and plot building." — Feb 27, 2021 04:44PM

Yet there are times when sides must be taken lest all that one loves is destroyed. I have never known another answer to the problem, though the taking of an extreme position will always make a man lose something of his humanity.”
