Book cover for Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World
Though Grant’s productivity depends on many factors, there’s one idea in particular that seems central to his method: the batching of hard but important intellectual work into long, uninterrupted stretches.

I have seen this done by many good software developers and some researchers.

“Do you know what we call opinion in the absence of evidence? We call it prejudice.”
Michael Crichton, State of Fear

Ralph Waldo Emerson
“In every work of genius we recognize our own rejected thoughts; they come back to us with a certain alienated majesty.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson, Self-Reliance

“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”
Bob Samples

Michael Crichton
“Briefly stated, the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect is as follows. You open the newspaper to an article on some subject you know well. In Murray's case, physics. In mine, show business. You read the article and see the journalist has absolutely no understanding of either the facts or the issues. Often, the article is so wrong it actually presents the story backward—reversing cause and effect. I call these the "wet streets cause rain" stories. Paper's full of them.
In any case, you read with exasperation or amusement the multiple errors in a story, and then turn the page to national or international affairs, and read as if the rest of the newspaper was somehow more accurate about Palestine than the baloney you just read. You turn the page, and forget what you know.”
Michael Crichton
