"Loving this book. Salesses writes clearly about craft and the fact that the way many of us talk and think about the concepts have been shaped by people in the majority. This book is helping me think about writing in a more refined way, blowing my mind with every sentence, and interesting to read (I'm a pretty big nerd, though, prone to liking academic books about literature, so... Definitely biased.)" Jun 18, 2021 05:09AM

"Not in the mood for this one, at the moment. Will try again when I'm in less of a funk." Jan 24, 2021 06:32PM

Maggie Stiefvater
Want and need were words that got eaten smaller and smaller: Freedom, autonomy, a perennial bank balance, a stainless-steel condo in a dustless city, a silky black car, to make out with Blue, eight hours of sleep, a cell phone, a bed, to kiss Blue just once, a blister-less heel, bacon for breakfast, to hold Blue's hand, one hour of sleep, toilet paper, deodorant, a soda, a minute to close his eyes.

What do you want, Adam?

To feel awake when my eyes are open.
Maggie Stiefvater, The Dream Thieves

Maggie Stiefvater
“Maybe she'd go for a walk, just her and the pink switchblade. They were a good pair. Both incapable of opening up without cutting someone.”
Maggie Stiefvater, The Dream Thieves

Sophie Kinsella
“Sometimes I hope I’m building up a stockpile of missing laughs, and when I’ve recovered, they’ll all come exploding out in one gigantic fit that lasts twenty-four hours.”
Sophie Kinsella, Finding Audrey

Philip K. Dick
“The gulf between their world and hers had manifested itself, however much they'd meditated on how to ball her, and remained.”
Philip K. Dick, A Scanner Darkly

Chuck Klosterman
“It has always been my belief that people are remembered for the sum of their accomplishments but defined by their singular failure.”
Chuck Klosterman, I Wear the Black Hat: Grappling With Villains
