I was born and raised in southern California, in an area known as the Inland Empire, surrounded by mountains, wide-open fields and orange groves. In a household with four kids, there was aways some kind of activity going on: listening to records with my brother and sisters; helping Dad mow the lawn and pull weeds; learning how to sew and bake with Mom; taking family trips; and of course, endless reading!

As she grew older, Mom began to urge us to write down her story for her. In February of 2014, I began working with her in earnest to pull together the various fragments of her story and place them in chronological order. Mom's health began to decline rapidly at the beginning of summer and she was diagnosed with stage four cancer in July. Although severely weakened from her illness, she was happy and proud to hold a printed rough draft of her story in her hands. She eventually passed away in August at the age of 83. The draft went through a long series of edits and eventually became Forged In Fire. I hope you will enjoy her stories as much I have!(less)

It has been a while since I've posted here but it's Mom's birthday today so the occasion has given me a reason to reflect upon the anniversary of what would have been her 86th year.
