Hart’s Recent Updates

Motel. Pool. by Kim Fielding
"A ghost love story is a new one for me, and not my usual kind of read, but as ever, Kim Fielding delivers a wonderful, character-driven story. As with Rattlesnake, this is a bit on the insta-love side but it's so adeptly written and the characters..." Read more of this review »

From Unseen Fire by Cass Morris
"A subtle reworking of Rome, with a very large cast of characters, an interesting magic system based upon the elements and their relationship to the Roman pantheon, and a whole lot of politics. This book is DENSE. I enjoyed it a lot, but it took a..." Read more of this review »

I don't think I can really review this book right now in any way that will be helpful to other readers, because I loved it so much. When it comes out in paperback, I'll probably buy a copy just so I can literally draw hearts in the margins.

Natasha Pulley
“Thaniel listened for a while longer, because the silence was so deep and clear that he could hear ghosts of the thirty-six of thirty-seven possible worlds in which Grace had not won at the roulette, and not stepped backward into him. He wished then that he could go back and that the ball had landed on another number. He would be none the wiser and he would be staying at Filigree Street, probably for years, still happy, and he wouldn't have stolen those years from a lonely man who was too decent to mention that they were missing.”
Natasha Pulley, The Watchmaker of Filigree Street

Scott Meyer
“There was nothing remarkable about him at all, save for his eyebrows, which were noticeable from a surprising distance. They were chaotic thickets of tangled, wiry hairs, extending in every possible direction from his brow ridge. His eyebrows overshadowed and dominated the rest of him, as if he weren’t so much a man as an eyebrow delivery system.”
Scott Meyer, Master of Formalities

“Most people,” Clem said carefully, “most people think that I shouldn’t make a fuss.”

“Most people think that nobody should make a fuss until it’s their own comfort at stake, at which point they will bring the roof down shrieking about it.”
KJ Charles

P.G. Wodehouse
“What, in your opinion, will the harvest be?"

"One finds it difficult to hazard a conjecture, sir."

"You mean imagination boggles?"

"Yes, sir."

I inspected my imagination. He was right. It boggled.”
P.G. Wodehouse, Right Ho, Jeeves

“Hilary took a moment to rest careful fingertips against his cheek, reliving the sense–memory of Tom’s lips against his skin. He thought that, if he were especially careful with it, if he nurtured it and didn’t wear it out, that moment might see him through decades of loneliness.”
Julie Bozza, The Apothecary's Garden
