The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman by Laurence Sterne
"
I would like to dedicate the following old review to a much missed GR friend, Bird Brian, who appears as a character in my review. He provided us with many hours of free entertainment with his great rants against every possible aspect of capitalis..." Read more of this review »

Tristram Shandy by Laurence Sterne
"Before I start my review of this delightful classic, I have to tell you a short anecdote from my teaching life. But don’t worry, it is not really a digression at all, as it is leading directly to the essence of this novel. It actually has more rel..." Read more of this review »

I liked Sir Harry very much, but could not believe in his daughter. Some lovely Trollope writing as usual, and it is a quick read. I enjoyed Mrs Morton, who reminded me a little of the wonderful Mrs Hurtle from The Way We Live Now.
Sir Harry Hotspur Of Humblethwaite by Anthony Trollope
" Trollope’s authorial asides and breaking of the 4th wall are one of the things I love about him! But not everyone’s cup of tea. "

Anthony Trollope
“This habit of reading, I make bold to tell you, is your pass to the greatest, the purest, and the most perfect pleasure that God has prepared for His creatures. It lasts when all other pleasures fade. It will support you when all other recreations are gone. It will last until your death. It will make your hours pleasant to you as long as you live.”
Anthony Trollope

“What on earth could be more luxurious than a sofa, a book, and a cup of coffee?...Was ever anything so civil?”
Anthony Trollope, The Warden

Jane Austen
“She was nothing more than a mere good-tempered, civil and obliging Young Woman; as such we could scarcely dislike her -- she was only an Object of Contempt”
