"First chapter was interesting. Surprised that the reveal that the plants appear to be intelligent came so soon, but considering the first chapter specified year and generation this story may span centuries." 15 hours, 2 min ago

""Octopus vs. Bear" by Kendra Fortmeyer. An almost cartoonish Nice Guy wakes up in a woman's body for a day. Of course he ends up getting raped but it wasn't quite as obvious as I thought it was gonna be. Fave part was his memory of asking a former girlfriend if rape was really that bad because "sex feels good, right?" and seeing her look of abject horror." 17 hours, 32 min ago

""Vladimir Chong Chooses to Die" by Lavie Tidhar. An okay story, lacked some impact because I'm not really familiar with the Central Station universe and therefore didn't have connection with the characters. Neat concept of a man who has the memories of all his ancestors and is losing the ability to tell them apart." Apr 14, 2018 11:12AM

This was a nice companion novella to Borne, which was a novel that I found somewhat frustrating. The Strange Bird doesn't quite stand on its own, because it is entwined with the plot of Borne. I read it because I usually like VanderMeer, and maybe be ...more

“And Olvos said:
"Nothing is ever truly lost
The world is like the tide
Returning, for an instant, to the place it occupied before
Or leaving that same place once more

Celebrate, then, for what you lose shall be returned
Smile, then, for all good deeds you do shall be visited upon you
Weep, then, for all ills you do shall return to you
Or your children, or your children's children

What is reaped is what is sown.
What is sown is what is reaped."

Part IV, 13.51-13.61”
