The writing of this book is clearly its strong point but I found the plot well-suited to it. Every movement makes sense yet it is not at all predictable. I recommend this book to everyone, although if you tend to empathize strongly with characters an ...more

Parts of this book ripped my heart out and others plunged me into despair. It went trippingly along from one pointed scene to another. I’d recommend this book to lovers of science fiction who aren’t prone to existential dread.

Instead of reading Cable’s interpretation of mixed race relationships in nineteenth-century Louisiana, I should have read Charles Chesnutt’s.

Naturally and compellingly told, this book consumed my attention and overall did everything right. My one regret is that something happens at the end that upset me and, in the interest of not spoiling it for anyone, I can’t warn others. I recommend t ...more
