I gave up reading this one half way through as the anecdotes simply stopped being interesting and the ghost writer's voice took over too much. A shame really as some of the early bits are interesting and fun. There have been a lot of books about Geor ...more

Raylan by Elmore Leonard
"I am really not one to quit reading books before I finish them. I understand this can be a bad thing especially if the book sucks. That being said, I quit this book on page 36. I was just looking for an easy read that might have some good silly, y..." Read more of this review »

I just could not get going with this one. The plot went wonky virtually from the start and I couldn't be bothered to make any effort with it. A bit too much "good ole boy" too.

An extraordinary debut novel. Malla powerfully evokes the apartheid atmosphere and the landscape of Fifties South Africa. It's a terrific story with well developed and rounded characters (well, maybe not the Afrikaners to be honest). It truly grips a ...more

I was very disappointed with this Bosch: there were no surprises in the plot and the idea of a Californian cop turning up in Hong Hong to get to the bottom of his daughter's disappearance simply stretched credibility too far for me. The whole thing f ...more

A fun read on the whole telling the retrospective story of an old boy who does a runner from his old people's home. It's all fairly preposterous and a bit Zelig meets Forrest Gump but it made me chuckle and that's no mean feat for me! The last 30 pag ...more
