Raised in Algoma, Wisconsin, Ryun left the shores of Lake Michigan to study journalism at the University of Oklahoma. In the intervening years he spent some time as an editor at a daily newspaper in Cambodia, and now he's in Chicago.

His first book, Vanishing Act: A Glimpse into Cambodia's World of Magic, was funded on Kickstarter in 2014 and features 11 interviews with sorcerers, fortunetellers, spirit mediums, and monks throughout that kingdom. The iBooks Enhanced Edition features dozens of photos and nearly an hour of video.

Let's Keep Exploring!

Hi everyone,

Thanks to all of you, my first book, "Vanishing Act," has been getting rave reviews from readers. Because of this response, I've launched a Kickstarter campaign for a second book, Living Spirits: Cambodia's World of Magic.

For this edition, I want to explore northeast Cambodia and dive deep into a recent wave of mob violence that has affected the spiritual community there.
