“Ending a novel is almost like putting a child to sleep—it can't be done abruptly.”
Colm Tóibín

“The limited dimensions of the reality we live in limit our imagination.”

She craved a tall glass of the fresh-squeezed lemonade from the pitcher she’d left chilling
“She craved a tall glass of the fresh-squeezed lemonade from the pitcher she’d left chilling in the fridge. Two glasses served with a generous slice of pound cake with orange glaze icing sounded twice as nice.”
Ed Lynskey, Fur the Win

Dean Koontz
“Little City wasn’t really a city. It was more like a big town, with twenty thousand citizens. There had been fewer than four hundred residents when Thomas Little founded the place, but he had been a man with big dreams and no regard for the truth.”
Dean Koontz, Ricochet Joe

The Queen of Ivins (Poetry)
1 chapters   —   updated Jan 20, 2010 12:05PM
Description: I wrote this poem when I was in 9th grade. My senior year, an edited version of the poem was published in the high school literary magazine (they took out the words "until the townspeople die" because it was too gruesome of a thought :-) I re-typed this based on the version published in the 1998 edition of "Canyons" by Snow Canyon High School. I've changed it minimally - if I find my drafts from 9th grade, I may change it some more. Background: I was raised in a small town in Southern Utah called Ivins - "Our Home Beneath The Big Red Mountain". You can learn more about the City of Ivins by visiting their new website www.ivins.com My grandparents moved to Ivins the day following their wedding in 1934 & most of my extended family has stayed pretty close to home. The city has been experiencing rapid growth for over three decades.
