"In 2019 to read Washington Irving's comment from 1819 on how the language of a fifteenth century poem is antiquated is setting life and time, which never stops moving, into a, what feels a bit surreal for all its realism, surreal yet so very realistic perspective." Jan 17, 2019 01:56AM

"My teen have short stories on his curriculum in literature, so we surfed the bookshelf for a read. One thing is learning the technicalities in school another is reading something that appeals to you - the best is a combination of both. We have read Poe's 'The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar', 'The Judge's House' by Bram Stocker and so far, the creepiest of them all, 'The Hand' by Guy de Maupassant." Jan 17, 2019 12:46AM

Your feminist premise should be: I matter. I matter equally. Not “if only.” Not “as long as.” I matter equally. Full stop.

“Alle vil bli skrevet dikt om" sa han. "Men ingen vil være karakterer i en roman.”
Jens M. Johansson, Et godt liv

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
“If she likes makeup, let her wear it. If she likes fashion, let her dress up. But if she doesn’t like either, let her be. Don’t think that raising her feminist means forcing her to reject femininity. Feminism and femininity are not mutually exclusive.”
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Dear Ijeawele, or A Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions

Becky Albertalli
“My limbs feel really heavy. I kind of want to go home and crawl into bed with my iPod. But the curtains start to open. And I keep moving forward.”
Becky Albertalli, Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda

Becky Albertalli
“It’s like—you have this baby, and eventually, he starts doing stuff. And I used to be able to see every tiny change, and it was so fascinating.” She smiles sadly. “And now I’m missing stuff. The little things. And it’s hard to let go of that.”
Becky Albertalli, Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
“Why were we raised to speak in low tones about periods? To be filled with shame if our menstrual blood happened to stain our skirt? Periods are nothing to be ashamed of. Periods are normal and natural, and the human species would not be here if periods did not exist. I remember a man who said a period was like shit. Well, sacred shit, I told him, because you wouldn’t be here if periods didn’t happen.”
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Dear Ijeawele, or A Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions
