This book is a masterpiece of finely honed prose. I liked it a lot.

If this book has a limit, it's the plot which is rather linear & predictable. It's basically a travel book.

Overall I'm glad I read it.

I LOVED this book, more than I've loved a book in years. When I write "love," I mean I'm rating it with my heart, not my head, though my noodle certainly has no objection to that.

I forced myself to read it really slowly too, like someone savouring a

I didn’t particularly care for all the chapters about the old man wh

I wanted to love this Jewish themed book, which blessedly is not about the Holocaust.
I respected the writing, I respected the plot overall, but I only liked the book. It’s a little overwritten & could have been shorter. More si

I loved this book, the way it was written, the way she brings us into the tormented world of the MC, and we gradually learn the legitimacy of her distress and grief. Her turnaround happens a little too fast (all over Christm

I loved the voice in the novel, and I admired how consistently she achieved it. I loved the historical details. She brings us into the antebellum world of Iowa & Kansas where slavery is an intense & current issue.

I wish I could say I appreciated the avant-garde format of this book. I did not. It did nothing for me. And though this book is about the tragic death of Willie Lincoln and his parents’ heartfelt grief, it didn’

This was an interesting read about a woman, Gertrude Bell, whom I knew nothing about. This is a book that gave me many insights into the middle east-past and present.
Bells was a woman way ahead of her time, surmounting so many traditional barriers l
