It's not that good. The handful of illustrations are fine, but the pacing is too fast. Scenes are choppy.

I don't want to write an essay on sexual assault and its implications for love and relationships, but yeah. This is a super problematic book.

Once again, I'm not sure how I feel about this one. It's not the first book of the author's to feature trespassing - there is The Egypt Game, after all. But I think I sympathized more with those characters than I do Neely and Grub. The book builds sl ...more

My only issue is the end left me with lingering questions. The main plot wraps, but I want to know what's next for ev

This is the "girl and her horse" book I wanted when I was younger and hungrily watching/reading The Black Stallion over and over. There are tried-and-true horse fiction tropes here but the charm of the narration sells them easily. The book plays itse ...more

Diane Duane
“You should know how terrible a power belief is, especially in the wrong hands -- and how do you tell which hands are wrong? Believe something and the Universe is on its way to being changed. Because you've changed, by believing. Once you've changed, other things start to follow.”
Diane Duane

“Reading one book is like eating one potato chip.”
Diane Duane, So You Want to Be a Wizard

Tamora Pierce
“Girls are 50% of the population. We deserve to represent 50% of the heroes.”
Tamora Pierce

Diane Duane
“In Life’s name and for Life’s sake, I say that I will use the Art for nothing but the service of that Life. I will guard growth and ease pain. I will fight to preserve what grows and lives well in its own way; and I will change no object or creature unless its growth and life, or that of the system of which it is part, are threatened. To these ends, in the practice of my Art, I will put aside fear for courage, and death for life, when it is right to do so—till Universe’s end. I will look always toward the Heart of Time, where all times are one, where all our sundered worlds lie whole, as they were meant to be.”
Diane Duane, So You Want to Be a Wizard

Charlotte Brontë
“I know what it is to live entirely for and with what I love best on earth. I hold myself supremely blest -- blest beyond what language can express; because I am my husband's life as fully as he is mine.”
Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre
