Alexandra and 7 other people liked Ari's review of Contagion (Contagion, #1):
Contagion by Erin Bowman
"Contagion is a stunning (and I mean STUNNING!) book, set in the future, on a mysterious planet.

There are many things I loved (scratch that, adored!) about it.

The first one would be cast of characters - both the ones I cared about and the one I h..." Read more of this review »

"2018 edit because I'm still getting hate mail.

The UK publisher asked me to review the book, they sent me a contract to sign for me to sign saying that I would get paid. I declined because I don't rate books well to earn a few coins, I'm the Book..." Read more of this review »

I absolutely loved this one.
It's a fun, light book without the writing being sloppy or mediocre. It's in an incredibly innovative format that I think would appeal to today's teenagers quite a lot - at least it appeals to this adult right here!

“You can never know anyone as completely as you want. But that’s okay, love is better.”
Caroline Paul, Lost Cat: A True Story of Love, Desperation, and GPS Technology

Christopher Hitchens
“Ethiopians imagine their gods as black and snub-nosed; Thracians blue-eyed and red-haired. But if horses or lions had hands, or could draw and fashion works as men do, horses would draw the gods shaped like horses and lions like lions, making the gods resemble themselves. Xenophanes”
Christopher Hitchens, The Missionary Position: Mother Teresa in Theory and Practice

Carol Tavris
“This habit starts awfully early. Social psychologist Marilynn Brewer, who has been studying the nature of stereotypes for many years, once reported that her daughter returned from kindergarten complaining that “boys are crybabies.”25 The child’s evidence was that she had seen two boys crying on their first day away from home. Brewer, ever the scientist, asked whether there hadn’t also been little girls who cried. “Oh yes,” said her daughter. “But only some girls cry. I didn’t cry.” Brewer’s little girl was already dividing the world, as everyone does, into us and them. Us is the most fundamental social category in the brain’s organizing system, and it’s hardwired.”
Carol Tavris, Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me): Why We Justify Foolish Beliefs, Bad Decisions, and Hurtful Acts

Simone de Beauvoir
“That the child is the supreme aim of woman is a statement having precisely the value of an advertising slogan.”
Simone de Beauvoir, The Second Sex

Armistead Maupin
“Laugh all you want and cry all you want and whistle at pretty men in the street and to hell with anybody who thinks you're a damned fool!”
Armistead Maupin, More Tales of the City
