I don't know how to describe Your Favorite Band Cannot Save You without spoiling it . . . let's see, it's sci-fi/horror. This band comes out of nowhere and releases songs that seems to be hypnotic, and the narrator of the story (a music blogger) beco ...more

Picked up Lovely, Dark, and Deep on a whim because I loved the name—and then the opening pages featured Firefly references?! I didn't stand a chance.

So this is basically a YA coming-of-age novel with a few twists that I didn't expect, since I didn't

Does this count as RPF? Great premise, but in practice much less swashbuckling than you'd expect from a book about a bunch of pirates. I did like the way the ending called back to the beginning, and I didn't mind the tangled-up timelines, but the ove ...more

I don't know why I liked Witchmark as much as I did—it's full of stuff I usually don't go for, like bicycling as the main mode of transportation and steampunk-sounding things. Plus Polk tosses the reader into an alternate universe without including a ...more

Didn't click with this one, although I still love the concept. Greta Helsing is a doctor for the paranormal in modern-day London, and there's so much potential there. I think the main issue I ran into was that the characters felt like quick sketches, ...more

I enjoy ridiculous vampire fiction, but Insatiable is the kind of ridiculous that verges on cringe, not the fun type. Things that were supposed to be funny weren't, things that were supposed to be homages felt like rip-offs, etc.
