Anyway my question is, When approximately are Wil..."Hi, Lilliana — At this point, I would imagine Joseph's story would be out late next year (2013) and Lord William's the year after that. I have to write I-Team books as well, so alternating one and then the other means about a year between books or a bit longer.
Thanks for asking!
Firstly thank you for such amazing stories, wonderful writing and the detail that makes these characters come alive so brilliantly.I am interested in the native American elements of your stories (can not wait for Joseph's story), and particularly where you found the best information?
When we were traveling through St. Louis several years ago, we went to the st. Louis arch museum. While I had been familiar with some of the history of the first nations people's history during the "settlement"- the display there-and the description of the horrors of the "trail of tears" was very compelling. I appreciate that the joys and sorrows of these people are not represented stereotypically in the McKinnon Ranger series. How do you put such empathy into telling a story from such a range of perspectives?
Hi Pamela!!I love your I-Team series and have them in PB, Kindle and Audio!! And yes, like many ladies (Dhes included) I suffer from OKD! Totally looking forward to Javier and Laura's book Striking Distance.
My question is:
Will Kaleo Griffith be narriator for Striking Distance??
** Please say YES!!!!

Wow, thank you, Steamywindows! I think that being a reporter enables me to be very empathetic toward a range of perspectives, even ones that can seem extreme or very foreign. When I worked at a journalist, I excelled almost right from the beginning at a kind of writing called "the profile." I was able to write people's life stories — articles about experiences they had or their professional careers — and those articles really stood out. I got very good at putting myself in other people's shoes and seeing through their eyes.
I always start with primary sources when I can — materials written during the time of the story, not history books — and I just try to become a human sponge. Sometimes I have to fill in the blanks, but journals, letters, diaries of missionaries who worked with the Eastern Woodland nations — all of that enriches my understanding. And they I try to build from what I know specifically to create the character. If I have a cool fact about a ritual or the way they prepared a certain kind of food, I might find a way to make sure I can include that, in other words.
Also, I've spent a lot of time reporting on Native issues as a journalist, and spent weeks on the Navajo reservation and also on Lakota lands up north. So I have a more than passing understanding of the modern Native perspective on many issues.

OKD is taking its toll! :-)
YES, he is narrating STRIKING DISTANCE. He's also narrating my MacKinnon's Rangers stories, set during the French and Indian War. Those will be out starting in July, while the audiobook for STRIKING DISTANCE will be out at the same time as the book (November).

Great News, thanks Pamela! I will be saving my audiable credits for MacKinnon's Rangers!!!

You're welcome! I'm so excited to work on this project with Kaleo. It's going to be a lot of fun. :-)

Pamela,
I remember hearing that you got to meet Kaleo and his wife, right? How was that? What's he like?

I haven't met them — yet. I've Skyped with Kaleo and spoken with him many times on the phone. His wife, Kristine, and I have emailed back and forth quite a bit. She's six months pregnant with a baby girl — their first child. She really had a tough first trimester. I sent the MacKinnon's Rangers trilogy to her, and she read those books during the nausea phase and really loved them. :-)
I will be meeting Kaleo face to face at RWA in Atlanta July 16-21. He'll be coming in Friday, July 19, and staying for a fan get-together on Saturday, July 20. He'll also be escorting me to the RITA ceremony, where DEFIANT is a finalist for Best Historical Romance.
I'm very excited. He feels like a very close friend though we've never met.
That's awesome Pamela! I bet it makes the whole audio experience much nicer when you are friends and bond with the narriator. Congrats to Kaleo & Kristine!!
Dorsey aka Wrath Lover wrote: "That's awesome Pamela! I bet it makes the whole audio experience much nicer when you are friends and bond with the narriator. Congrats to Kaleo & Kristine!!"Yes, it does. The collaboration has become a close friendship. Kaleo is an incredibly sensitive and caring artist who has put so much into bringing these stories alive. I'm so lucky to have ended up with him.

Sometimes you can feel a kinship, even without meeting someone face to face. I really do believe that we all knew each other before we came to this life, and that we recognize those we were closest to, once upon a time.
I bet you and KG have that kinship and he "gets" where your characters come from. That's why he's so amazing!

No one has made an offer for it yet, Dorsey. I could potentially pursue that on my own, but right now my plate is full. :-)
I haven't forgotten about it, though.

Oooh, that would be amazing!!! You hold the rights to those books, Pamela, correct?

I own the rights to the first two. Berkley owns the rights to RIDE THE FIRE. So they would have to get an offer from Tantor or another audiobook publisher for that to make it to the shelves. The first two are up to me.

Hmmph!
Hmmph!
It should be out in iBooks in the next several days. It takes Apple longer than Amazon. I hope it will be out on iBooks by Monday and in print by next Friday.
Happy Thanksgiving Pam and everyone. So what book are you working on now? After reading UAWN I am dying for Joseph's story.
Right now, I am contractually bound to work on the next I-team novel. I was hit by a major surge of inspiration for Holly's story last night. Then hopefully Joseph's story, and then Jack West's story ( he connects with Agent Janet Killeen from SD) and then I-team and then Lord William's book. My life is planned for the next 2 years, I guess. ;-) I hope to write 2 novels and Jack's novella in 2014.And Happy Thanksgiving to you, too, KarLyn!

Hope you had a wonderful turkey day!
Holly next?! Oh yes, I am definitely on board with that one! Pamela, it will be very interesting to see where you go when you have no more contractual obligations. The sky will be your limit.
Holly is a trip! I had hoped she'd met her match in Derek Tower. There's something sinister and sexy about the bad-guy-turned-good.
Holly's story will certainly be interesting. Having a rep as a bit of a slut means the guy will have to really be something.
Isn't Matt married?
I like the Derek Tower and Holly connection, but I think I'd rather see DT get his HEA in the new series. There was some character chatter in SD that Holly's man would have to be someone who wouldn't jump in the sack with her right away. He'd force her to get to know him. That sounds really fun to me. :D
Thanks for stopping by, Pamela!

Whoo! I love Holly and can't wait for her story. And, oh boy, Jack West & Agent Killeen will be legend! I know STRIKING DISTANCE just came out... but I want more I-Team stat :P.Hope things are well, and happy Thanksgiving!

Yes, Matt IS married. :-)
Holly and Derek Tower? Nope... I hope what I have brewing in my brain is more fun than that.

What's so funny about that is that my editor at first told me absolutely she did not plan on seeing Holly get her own book. I love how these characters eventually win people over, whether it's Wentworth or Holly. :-)
Aileene wrote: "Holly's next?! *eyes bugged out* Oh boy! Oh boy! OH BOY! *jumps up & down and clapping hands*"I did some brainstorming on her story while my sister was here and have something of an outline started. I'm glad you're excited! :-)
CrazyPenguinLady wrote: "My favorite thing about Holly's finding someone is that she yearns for love like all her friends have, but she doesn't believe she'll find it for herself because she's a bit shallow and a bit mater..."Nope, not Matt. He is married. And I don't think of him as hero material. Not that he isn't brave and smart and even good looking. But I worked with so many men just like him as a journalist that he just kind of feels like a little brother to me.
I think Holly is a bit deeper than she seems. She just doesn't know how to relate to people in other ways yet. :-)

It's a good idea to post questions in bold so that they stand out from the other chat.
